Framing Your Prints
Fine art prints are an inexpensive alternative to purchasing an original piece of artwork, however, you’ll want to ensure that you get a framing shop lined up to truly elevate the overall look of the print. Professional framers will consider the colours of the artwork and can suggest matting options with a matching frame to suit your space.
All of Alex’s prints come unframed allowing collectors to independently frame their piece in their own unique style.
For the DIY collector looking to frame the piece themselves, there are some easy options out there.
When fine art is reproduced as a print, it typically features a border to create a relief between the image and the frame and/or mat.
Alex offers a variety of prints, however you’ll find that her smaller print sizes (16 x 20) are best if you’re looking to purchase a ready made frame. Smaller prints can easily pop into standard 18x24" or 16x20" frames respectively, without trimming. The effect when framed is a more original-looking print.
Frame for the long haul. To preserve a piece over time, matting materials should be acid-free, and there should be a dust cover on its back. Traditionally there’s a glass layer over the front, but some companies offer acrylic instead. Acrylic has the advantage of being shatterproof and lightweight; on the other hand it can get scratched much more easily than glass. Whatever the material, the key is that it’s been treated to protect from UV light.
